Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
